Stupefy in Hogwarts Legacy is a counter Spell that stuns enemies after successfully shielding an enemy attack. Stupefy is one of the most basic spells in the game and 1 of 8 Essential spells. Although basic, it is one of the few spells that all master wizards and witches must master.
How to Get Stupefy
Luckily players won’t have to wait too long before learning this powerful spell.
Stupefy is simply learned during The Path to Hogwarts quest at the beginning of the game. During the quest, players will have plenty of opportunities to practice Protego and Stupefy on statue enemies before arriving at Hogwarts.
Players will also learn Lumos, Protego, and Revelio during The Path to Hogwarts.
How to Use
Press and hold the Triangle button (Y for Xbox) when an orange circle surrounds your character’s head for a successful Protego. Then let go of the button to perform Stupefy. Stupefy will stun an enemy for a few moments after being hit.
Red circles that surround your character’s head are attacked that cannot be blocked with Protego. Instead, these types of attacks must be dodged.
Talent Synergies
Talents let you further customize your combat style by enhancing specific spells in Hogwarts Legacy. Use the talents below to further enhance your use of Stupefy.
Stunning Curse – This spell gains the effect of adding curses to enemies. Cursed enemies take increased damage. It’s great for builds that revolve around curse application.
Stupefy Mastery – Increased stun effect from this spell. Great for adding more crowd control. Players can use this extra time to focus on other enemies, reposition, or continue attacking the stunned enemy.
Stupefy Expertise – Adds direct damage to this spell. Great for adding some offense to your defense.
Trait Synergies
Traits are extra enhancements that you can weave into each of your 6 pieces of Gear: Handwear, Facewear, Headwear, Neckwear, Cloaks and Robes, Outfit. Use the following traits on your pieces of Gear to get the most out of Stupefy.
Unforgivable I, Unforgivable II, Unforgivable III
This trait increases damage to cursed enemies with Unforgivable III giving the highest increase. Combine with the Stunning Curse talent to add the curse effect to Stupefy.

Protego -> Stupefy
Successfully shield with Protego then counter with an attack of your own.
Protego -> Stupefy (Stunning Curse) -> Avada Kedavra (Mastery)
Similar to the previous combo but requires the Stunning Curse talent to curse the enemy. Then use Avada Kedevra on any cursed enemy to kill that enemy and all other cursed enemies
