How to Get the Masamune’s Edge
The Masamune’s Edge is obtained as a legendary random drop when completing Ghost of Tsushima: Legends missions.
Because it doesn’t drop from a specific event, the best way to get the Masamune’s Edge is to complete Nightmare difficulty missions and Tales of Iyo raids for their overall increased chance of legendary drops.

Melee attacks have a 20% chance to deal double damage
Masumune’s Edge is a great booster to damage since it’s essentially a 20% critical chance for double damage. Like all chance-based effects, it also has a chance to trigger many times in a row or not proc at for long periods.

- Can proc multiple times in a row giving a higher than 20% damage increase
- Great for melee Samurai builds
- Guaranteed max value properties due to it being a legendary weapon
- Wind stance great against spearmen
Cons
- Can also not proc multiple times and effectively do nothing
- Does not provide survivability nor utility
- Wind stance can have trouble against enemies that don’t use spears
- Might activate on enemies that would die from a normal hit

The Masamune’s Edge has 8 possible perks:
Burning Blade – Melee attacks have a chance to apply the Burning effect
Intimidating Counter – Perfect Parry counter attacks have a 50% chance to also deal damage to nearby foes
Moon Stance – Allows switching to Moon stance (R2 + Square)
Poison Blade – Melee attacks have a chance to apply the Poison effect
Stone Stance – Allows switching to Stone Stance (R2 + X)
Way of the Flame – Ignite the katana to apply Burning damage to melee attacks for a short time (R1+ Circle)
Water Stance – Allows switching to Water stance (R2 + Circle)
Wind Master – Typhoon Kick deals increased Stagger damage and causes knock down

Players can also choose to use Water or Stone Stances for advantage against shieldmen or swordsmen.

Way of the Flame & Water Stance pairs unblockable fire damage with fast Water Stance charged attack.
Burning Blade & Poison Blade for players who run status builds with Masamune’s Edge.
